Bala Opens Vunisinu Warehouse Project
Parveen Bala said the opening of the Vunisinu Village warehouse yesterday was a testament to the villagers’ resilience despite the challenges they faced. “The sustainable housing and income generation warehouse project is a testament of the villagers’ resilience despite physical, environmental, economic and social challenges faced,” said the Minister for Local Government, Housing, Environment, Infrastructure and Transport.
Mr Bala was speaking while officiating as chief guest at the opening of the Navovula and Wailumu Cooperative office and warehouse project in Vunisinu Village, Rewa.
He said the project completion was possible through funds acquired from the eight chicken poultry sheds funded by the ministry that was operated by the eight mataqali (clan) of Vunisinu and Nalase Villages. “My ministry in close consultation with the Village Development Committee and support from the iTaukei Navouvula, Rewa Provincial Council and Commissioner Central Office prepared the project plans with this in mind,” he said.
The project was one of the nine Sustainable Housing and Income Generation Projects implemented by the ministry through proper and sustainable use of land resources with planned and prudent funding of livelihood programmes. Village headman Joji Bakarau said: “After the Government saw that we had managed the egg layer project well, they then gave us $15,000 to build the warehouse,” he said.
“We are glad that this warehouse will include a professional boardroom.”
