Mother leaves children behind for overseas surgery for their sake
It was 17 years ago when Narsamma Naidu then 44-yearsold, of Namara in Labasa discovered a lump on her left breast. The 61-year-old, mother of two kept it a secret for about a week in March that year when she finally decided to go to the hospital. She was initially told she was in her first stage of breast cancer. “But three months later I was told I was in the third stage and all I could think about was my children,” Ms Naidu said. “Being told that I had to undergo a surgery, I was scared of not having a successful surgery.”
So many thoughts engulfed her mind and she had sleepless nights. People suggested home remedies. But through the support of her husband and family members the retired school teacher managed to gather courage in the hope of surviving to go and undergo an operation in Australia accompanied by her husband.
The hard decision was leaving her children behind for six months to undergo that operation overseas. “That was one decision that has kept me alive to date,” she said. “I had so many thoughts in my mind of what if….this and that… but had I not gone for the operation, I wonder where I would be now.”
After six months of treatment at an Australian hospital, Ms Naidu came out fresh and has since not taken any other medication, herb or treatment.
“I live a normal life now, I only keep a watch on my diet and I exercise, as I would suggest to any person regardless of their health,” she said.
Therefore, Ms Naidu has urged everyone to seek medical attention at any slight detection of a lump or cancer.
She strongly advises that resorting to herbs and home remedies are not the solution as many usually opt for.
