The Tikina Namosi Landowners Committee (TNLC) is organising a COP23 torch relay on November17 -19.

“The torch relay is to signify the passing of the baton from governments to citizens at the end of the COP 23 (November 17, 2017) as they take ownership of the outcomes and decisions made by leaders at the meeting,” Jo Rauto the TNLC chairperson said.

He said TNLC was looking at a 25-member delegation of torch carriers including women, youth and children as well as representatives from the 14 provinces of Fiji. The runners he said would begin their journey from Naitasiri district, Nasirotu village and end their journey in Wainikoroiluva district, Namosi village.

“At that point, they would have crossed 11 villages, two schools and a settlement, advocating clear messages about the need for partnerships and solidarity against climate change.”

He said in recognition of their solidarity and willingness to join the campaign and host the relay team, each village headman would receive a gold medallion from the relay party captain.

The TNLC’s theme for this activity is “Three Districts, Three Nights, the Rest of Our Children’s Lives” as it signifies the heart of their efforts – which is the future of Fiji’s children.

He said TNLC would host the torch relay team for peer to peer learning.
