No complacency, media told
Complacency is a word that is never used in the Vodafone Fijian Bati camp, says head coach Mick Potter. He was reacting to a question during a press interview at Townsville Stadium, Australia after the captain’s run yesterday.
Potter was asked on whether the Bati with a dominated NRL line-up would be complacent against an unknown USA Hawks side.
“It’s a term no one is using,” he said.
“For us it‘s a matter of working hard and getting things right. We’re playing an unknown USA side but what we’re worried about is getting those little things right. It’s about improving on with our play.”
Potter said they’re fine with their 24-member squad despite the late withdrawal of forward Korbin Sims due to a shoulder injury.
“There are couple of options but I’m fine with the squad we have now and probably I will bring in someone next week.” He said for the past three weeks things are beginning to come together for the side.
“Our attack is now becoming very comfortable and our defence is beginning to take shape as well.
It has been a steady build-up and we hope to achieve a good result and provide entertainment as well.”
Potter said with Jarryd Hayne at halves he has been working with winger Suliasi Vunivalu on his high cross kicks.
“Vunivalu is a lethal finisher but it’s not only him as there are other players who could do the same as well. We know that they’ll be targeted. Jarryd has done a lot of kicking since he was a kid and has not been doing it for sometime but we’ve been practicing,” he added.
