Urban youth plans set after one year celebrations
Out of the 60 club members , majority are still attending school with the rest unemployed and only a few are working
The United Samabula North Youth Club will be celebrating its anniversary next month. Only a year old, the youth club has 60 active registered youth members. The aim of the club is to empower urban youths – particularly those living in the Samabula area.
Club president, Kelepi Gucake said: “As we wrap up 2017 we believe we have empowered our youths in terms of nation building to promote what the Government has already contributed to us with all the stakeholders.”
With young people making up 40 per cent of Fiji’s population, Mr Gucake said it was vital to invest and empower them as they have potential to become future leaders.
“So far our youths have achieved 50 per cent of their targeted outcomes. This is in terms of participation in sports, farming and land management. “And most importantly to empower them well through spiritual development. That is our main core and our ultimate goal is to strengthen them spiritually to be a productive and a good citizen of Fiji.”
To encourage business entrepreneurship, the club will take part in small micro-business initiatives by the Ministry of Youth and Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism.
The plan, Mr Gucake said is to get youth members to apply for the small business grant so youths can run their own businesses.
Out of the 60 individually, so that they can contribute the nation as part of the revenue to generate economical and the sustainability for the developments in the country.”
