Maka Optimistic Of Securing Job At Air Terminal Services

Anaseini Maka travelled all the way from Nausori to attend an interview for a job with the Air Terminal Services (ATS) on Friday. Even though she understood that it was for temporary employment only, Ms Maka was optimistic of securing a better job with ATS.

“I want a job. I know this is someone else’s job I’m taking, someone who is on strike, but opportunities like this don’t come often. That’s why I’m here,” Ms Maka said,

“I’m already working in Nausori, but when I saw the advertisement for these vacancies I knew that I had to take a chance at this.”

Ms Maka was among 1100 people who turned up for the interviews. Whether she got the job or not, Ms Maka is pleased that she has tried.

Some ATS workers have been on strike since December 16.

Nadi ended with no headway and neither side changing their position.

The management of ATS wants the workers to return to work, but not without signing a statement acknowledging that they did wrong in walking off their jobs to attend the beneficiaries meeting. Workers who have since returned to work have accepted management’s condition.

The few who spoke to Fiji Sun said they returned to work because they needed their jobs and needed to continue earning an income.
