Questions ATS workers should think about
Today, the striking Air Terminal Services (ATS) workers at Nadi International Airport continue without work.
With no resolution reached so far, it's time to ask some hard questions on what has transpired and what are the real motives of those behind it. 1.Who gave the orders for the ATS workers to stop working on Saturday, December 16, 2017, without giving any proper notice to management? To just walk off the job?
2. Was this an act of sabotage? Given that they had stopped work at 1pm on a Saturday, going into a time when many Australian and New Zealand tourist flights are coming and going.
3. How come so many Opposition politicians like Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) leader Sitiveni Rabuka and his new colleague Lynda Tabuya; National Federation Party leaders Biman Prasad, and Pio Tikoduadua; Fiji Labour Party leader Mahendra Chaudhry and trade unionist/politicians Felix Anthony and Daniel Urai immediately jumped on the bandwagon and teamed up with the striking workers?
4. Who was responsible for all the LIES that were told to the Australian Transport Workers Union of passengers being hospitalised after getting hurt at Nadi International Airport?
5. Why did NFP leaders Mr Prasad and Mr Tikoduadua make press statements reported extensively by the Fiji Times about the case regarding the ATS compensation payment on a damaged Fiji Airways Airbus A330 aircraft? The matter is in dispute and already before the court.
6. What are some of the personal ambitions of those in the background? Isn't one of them aspiring to take over as ATS chief executive officer?
We can go on asking questions forever but the answer is crystal clear. We're now into Elections year and destabilising works seem to be in the air even before a date is set for us to go to the polls. Some of those involved in this whole sorry saga do not seem to be there for the interest of the workers. They are thriving on the controversy as they set the scene for the elections.
