Ratu Kadavulevu School coaching director works on the development aspect as the Suva Rugby Union try to get their coaches certified
Successful Ratu Kadavulevu rugby coach Naca Saumi is assisting in the development works of the Suva Rugby Union.
This was confirmed yesterday by SRU secretary Paula Raqeukai indicating that they are honoured to have Saumi helping out in their development programme since he’s committed with RKS.
“We cannot ignore Saumi because he has the qualification that most of our club coaches don’t have,” he said. “Now we are working on getting all our coaches qualified, which is part of our development programme. We need qualified coaches not only for the premier team but for the under-20 and development sides as well.”
Saumi is a World Rugby (IRB) Level IV certified coach and was the director and head coach of Plymouth Albion Rugby Football Union in England.
The former national sevens rep set-up the development programme at RKS which saw them create history last year when they scooped all titles (Under-14 to U19) in the Deans Trophy competition.
REGISTRATION OF PLAYERS
Raqeukai said they’re now sorting out the registration of club players before the new season kicks-off.
“We don’t want a repeat of last season where we had problems over the registration of players. This time we want to sort it out before we get all our competitions underway.”
He also pointed out that in regards to Suve premier side for 2018, the executive committee is going to meet tomorrow to discuss in details a proposal structure with the current coaching staff.
SUVA TENS
Women rugby clubs in Suva are given until tomorrow to confirm their participation in the Suva 10s tournament set for this weekend.
Raqeukai said so far only Nadi Blazers women’s club have confirmed that they are coming to play.
“I know there are six women’s clubs in Suva and they should make use of this chance. We’re giving them time until Tuesday to register before we decide on whether to hold the tournament for a day.”
He confirmed that for the men’s 10s competition, the clubs that have registered are Marist, West Coast Drifters, USP, Nasinu and Police.
“This tournament will basically commence the SRU season for 2018 and at the same will be used as the basis of selecting two teams of 20 players (including coaches and managers) to represent the Capital City to the FRU Provincial 10s set for January 13 at the ANZ Stadium. “This FRU Provincial 10s will be the selection ground for the Fiji 10s team for the Brisbane Tens which is on February 9-10,” he added. -
