They are seeking financial help to save their baby boy.

Amother today fears for her baby boy’s life. Some time late last year when doctors first told Prineka Kumar her son was suffering from a liver condition it brought her to her knees.

“I didn’t even know what the disease was,” Ms Kumar said.

“No mother wants her child to suffer from something like this. I can see he is in pain because he is crying all the time.” Five-month-old Divansh Kumar suffers from a choledochal cyst in his liver. According to a Facebook post pleading for the boy, doctors have told the parents his condition is life-threatening. The family say they have three options, each equally costly as the other. Two hospitals in the Indian capital city of New Delhi and one in Chennai are currently being considered.

Divansh’s father, Pravinesh Kumar, cut a desperate figure when he said: “Time is so short for us. The sooner we get him treated the better.”

Mr Kumar says a total of $USD15,000 ($FJD30,569) will be needed for the treatment alone.

Comments about Divansh’s condition have been supportive, however, reveal his parents, only a couple of people have come forward with assistance. According to Wikipedia, a liver choledochal cyst is present when the baby is born. It involves the cystic swelling of the bile ducts. In infants, the cysts can lead to obstruction of the bile ducts and retention of bile, which can eventually lead to permanent damage.

Both parents now face a nervous wait. Ms Kumar said the sight of her baby crying all the time pains her.

“I just hope everything turns out fine in the future,” she added. Edited by Naisa Koroi
