Hundreds of teachers turned up at various venues around the country yesterday to sit a test as part of the selection process required by the Ministry of Education.

Teachers from within the Central Division were at Jai Narayan College in Suva to sit a similar test starting from 8am.

A teacher, who has been in the profession for more than 10 years, said on the condition of anonymity that the examination was to determine the level of a teacher’s competency and capability.

She said it was the first time in her career to sit for such an exam.

“It was good to test the teachers on their proficiency because it is about the betterment of the children and it will help teachers to be more accurate,” she said.

The test consists of two parts. Part 1 was an English Proficiency Test and Part 2 was a specific work test.

These new teachers, if successful, should be ready to start in their role on January 10. First offers round of employment will start from January 8, 2018.

All offers of employment will be made based on the order of merit established through this selection process. Applicants who do not receive an offer for the beginning of the school year will be kept on the order of merit for positions, which may arise during the 2018 school year.
