NEW GENERAL MANAGER AT TREASURE ISLAND
Treasure Island Fiji takes pleasure in announcing the appointment of Craig Powell as the new general manager of the resort effective January 15, 2018. In making the announcement the chairman of Treasure Island Ltd,
Bill Whiting, said that Treasure was fortunate to have someone of Craig’s experience and ability.
He added that it was very exciting to be able to employ a local home grown talent.
Mr Powell honed his hospitality skills in Fiji and has now amassed over 30 years of international tourism experience having worked in 10 countries, three of which were in the position of general manager in Myanmar, Malaysia and Fiji.
His passion for tourism in Fiji remains at the heart of who he is and Mr Powell is thrilled to join the team at Treasure Island Fiji and work with them to transform the resort from a tropical gem into a polished South Pacific jewel in the Mamanuca Islands.
This follows an extensive project upgrade plan that will take shape into the coming year.
Mr Powell says that Treasure Island Fiji is a terrific resort for families, couples and honeymooners; with so much tradition in history as one of the first resorts to set Fiji on its way to be a leader in tourism and hospitality in the South Pacific.
He is excited and enthusiastic about this new challenge which will involve many product and service improvements to ensure the resort continues to evolve its reputation for being one of the best that Fiji has to offer and to share his wealth of knowledge with a team that is predominantly locals on Treasure Island Fiji.
As the current chairman of the National Trust of Fiji, Mr Powell also recognises the great work that Treasure Island Fiji has done as a silent achiever for corporate social responsibility and the environment with its head start programme for the Critically Endangered Hawksbill Turtles, plus its excellent initiatives to protect the rare and threatened Fiji crested Iguanas that are unique to Fiji.
Treasure is increasing its focus in this area through becoming a tourism sustainability champion assisting the South Pacific Tourism Organisation in developing its sustainability monitoring programme.
Treasure also has an extensive marine conservation programme, including conservation and planting of coral and a long standing marine sanctuary to protect our marine life in the majestic ocean waters of the Mamanucas. Mr Whiting also acknowledged the excellent work of Mr Powell‘s predecessor Robert Wade in his management of both Treasure and Bounty Island Resorts and his contribution to the company’s success.
