Rabi Islanders Thankful For Govt Services Delivered At Doorsteps
People of Rabi island in the Northern Division are thankful to the Government for providing services at their doorstep.
Tukavesi District Officer (DO) Samu Saumatua with representatives from various government departments assembled at Nuku Settlement on the island for consultations and awareness with the public yesterday.
Mr Saumatua said people from the four villages converged at the centre to access Government services. “Services provided ranged from accessing of grants to registering Tin Cards, social welfare assistances and registration of birth certificates,” Mr Saumatua said. “The responses from the people were positive because they were able to access services on their very own island instead of travelling to Labasa and Savusavu. “Especially during this week when schools are preparing for the opening of the first school term. “Many were not aware of the services, but had the opportunity to access them on the day.
“It was very important for us to or- ganise this programme because people of Rabi face a lot of challenges, especially when it comes to travelling Vanua Levu to access service .” This event also gave them the opportunity to have one on one consultation with government officers on other avenues they could undertake. “Given the good turnout, we will look into having the programme either quarterly or monthly if possible,” he said.
“But we are focused on having more programmes such as these for Rabi Island.”
