FRA will limit work during peak hours to allow for traffic flow
The Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) will continue work along the Suva-Nausori Corridor, but have confirmed that a number of its operations will be limited considering the morning rush as school starts today.
FRA chief executive officer Jonathan Moore said the authority would continue with its work but would limit the number of work/ fronts that are open at the same time. “Contractors have been directed not to obstruct lanes at peak times and we are changing road and junction priorities at peak times,” he said.
“A number of road works will be put on hold during peak hours to ease traffic congestion. And more will be explained during the press conference today.” Sevuloni Qio of Nadawa, a bus checker for a prominent bus company said he would leave for work at 5.45am with a bus driver for their first run from Clifton, Valelevu. Mr Qio said like every school year traffic jam was always an issue whether there were road works or not.
“There are too many vehicles on our roads everyday and this why we have so many traffic jams, road works just began recently and yes it does cause traffic jams during the morning” he said
“We hope FRA will not have any road works in the morning and in the afternoon when school students are heading home and parents are returning home from work.” - The Gaji Road entry from the Grantham roundabout in Suva is closed and expected to open on February 10.
- Khalsa Road on Tamavua, Princes Road are affecting Tamavua villagers, and some commuters residing in the Newtown area. - Pre-works on Nokonoko Roundabout, Suva, start daily from 9pm to 6am till January 15th. Nokonoko Roundabout resurfacing works were planned to be completed this week if weather permitted.
