The Shree Satya Prakash Mandir in Nasinu, Suva has been praised for its effort in promoting the values of unity and empowerment of senior citizens.

The faith-based organisation put together a thanksgiving dinner and social programme for about 60 senior citizens residing in the Nasinu area last Saturday.

The programme was officiated by the Minister for Health and Medical Services, Rosy Akbar.

Ms Akbar applauded the members of Shree Satya Prakash Mandir for their commitment to promote unity among various communities. The senior citizens were also acknowledged for their contribution towards national development. Ms Akbar emphasised on the need for a collaborative partnership between ministries, non-government organisations and faith-based organisations in promoting the rights and interests of senior citizens. “I would like to commend the faith-based organisations like Shree Satya Prakash Mandir for organising such a wonderful programme and hoping you will continue with such programmes in the future,” Ms Akbar said.

“It’s significant in generating awareness among communities on the need to build an inclusive and supportive environment for senior citizens.

“It is my humble wish to see that all the senior citizens of this nation are accorded with the love, trust and respect they deserve from their families and children.” Speaking on behalf of the Shree Satya Prakash Mandir, Dr Vijay Nair said they would continue to capitalise on such social programmes to provide multiculturalism among all the communities.

“It is through multiculturalism that we can promote unity and peace among us all.

“This year and in the coming years, we will plan similar events to reach out to the public and create awareness to work together to look after our senior citizens and members of the communities,” Dr Nair said.

“Every religion teaches us to instill values of peace and unity, those are the values we are trying to cultivate through such social events.

“We are proud of our Nasinu community which is a great example of people living with peace and unity among each other.”
