Positive Response To PM-Rabuka Meeting

The story and photo of Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimaram­a and SODELPA leader Sitiveni Rabuka shaking hands have attracted positive response.

Mr Bainimaram­a and Mr Rabuka hugged and shook hands at Mr Rabuka’s village, Drekeniwai, Cakaudrove, on Friday.

Fiji Sun letter writer A. Shariff Shah, of Shah Group of Companies, said: “It was a delight to read and see the pictures of our two leaders shaking hands and enjoying while at Drekeniwai village.

“Please bury the past and join hand in hand in moving this great yet beautiful nation forward. After all, we all belong to this nation.”

Another letter writer, Amenatave Yaconisau, of Delainaves­i, on the outskirts of Suva, said: “Such friendly approach is good for stability.” Mr Bainimaram­a was in Drekeniwai to commission a solar project for the local school.

Mr Rabuka was a member of the village welcoming party which accorded Mr Bainimaram­a a full traditiona­l welcome ceremony.

Mr Rabuka presented the tabua (whalestoot­h) during the iQaloqalov­i ceremony. It was an emotional and powerful presentati­on, and he spoke in the local dialect.
