Dream comes true for Navua farmer

Koroi Seniloli, a cash crop farmer in Navua, hopes to one day quit his sales job and pursue success in business. Mr Seniloli had dreams for his land lying vacant in Nasasa Road, Navua but they never took form. Daily, he laboured from dawn to dusk to meet the needs of the family, including his six children. Then, in 2015, he heard about the $1000 Government Micro and Small Business Grant (MSBG) and decided to go for it. While applying, he could already picture his ideas taking shape.

By the time he became successful, Mr Seniloli already had a plan. “With the money, I bought seeds and farming tools and managed to plant 1000 dalo crops in first batch,” he said.

“I want to thank the Government for helping poor villagers like myself have a chance at an income.”

The 42-year-old, who is originally from Matuku, Lau, said he managed to earn close to $3000 from his first dalo sale.

“After seeing me successfully start my business, my wife wants to apply for the grant so she can open a canteen here and I have been encouraging her to do it,” Mr Seniloli added.

Eventually, he said, he wants to export his produce and expand his farm to produce on a much larger scale.
