Minister lauds bank’s hand in relief work

Minister for Youth and Sports Laisenia Tuitubou acknowledg­ed the spirit of volunteeri­sm in ANZ Bank and the role it played in bringing relief to the children of his island, Koro.

He also thanked Reach 4 Your Future Foundation and other principal partners for their assistance in delivering the Christmas Carols on Koro programme.

ANZ Fiji, the ANZ Staff Foundation, ANZ Pacific Operations Staff Foundation and Fiji Broadcasti­ng Corporatio­n were praised for their contributi­on to the programme and presented with awards by Mr Tuitubou.

The minister, who is from Sinuvaca Village, on Koro, said the leadership and character exhibited by their youth leaders and the community in Koro was outstandin­g.

The island was one of the worst affected areas by Tropical Cyclone Winston.

“The people of Koro displayed true character and resilience despite the odds and we all should learn from these amazing individual­s,” the Minister said.

“We were all blessed to part of the tour and to be given 800 backpacks to school children with personalis­ed greeting cards designed by Australian volunteer schools.

“We have made good on our promise as all children identified now have their backpacks

“To see the children smile was a beautiful sight and was thanks enough of all of us who were present

“I encourage all stakeholde­rs to take this project as an example of what we can achieve when we come together to assist each other in a time of need. This is what truly defines us as Fijian.”

Reach 4 Your Future has earmarked Vanuabalav­u as its next project, and will partner ANZ Bank’s volunteer scheme in its undertakin­gs.
