Avinesh and Sheetal form a dynamic duo in Rakiraki

For Avinesh and Sheetal Singh working out of the same shop, doing different businesses is a successful concept and workable combination. Operating the Classic Phone and Beauty Salon in Rakiraki Town, Mr Singh manages the phone accessory part of the business while his wife busily snips away at the hair salon portion of the shop.

“We find working together good. While we are at our separate stations, we operate well together and at the end of the day we go home at the same time and we find that we work well together that way.”

Mr Singh received $1000 from the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism and with it he bought hair products and shears.

“I get the products from our suppliers in Lautoka and once we rolled and kept a good client base, everything seemed to work out well,” he said.

In a small town with close to nine hair salons, business can be tough, but the couple are committed to pursuing business excellence where they are.

“We have returning customers who then spread the word for us. Sometimes we get requests from people to go to their houses and we find that when we go, we also build our relationship with our clients,” Mr Singh said.

In a week the hair salon makes $400 to $500 if the business is on a roll.

“The secret is in the service we give to our customers. You treat people right and they will give you good business,” he said. “We started small and we really struggled but since the grant was given to us, we have been able to establish ourselves and it has been a huge help,” Mr Singh said. “This Government has helped us a lot and we are grateful for that.”
