FUNERAL: SODELPA MP

RATU SELA NANOVO LAID TO REST

SODELPA MP, the late Ratu Sela Nanovo was laid to rest in Lovonilase Cemetery in Suva yesterday.

Gathered at the funeral service were Opposition Leader Ro Teimumu Kepa, SODELPA Leader Sitiveni Rabuka and other party members, FijiFirst MP Ashneel Sudhakar and Assistant Minister for Health Alex O’Conor, families and friends.

Giving a eulogy on behalf of SODELPA, Party Leader Sitiveni Rabuka said Ratu Sela had been a dedicated member of the Party until he was called to rest last Wednesday.

Mr Rabuka said Ratu Sela was elected to Parliarmen­t in 2014 under the SODELPA banner and thanked those who elected him to represent them in Parliament. He said Ratu Sela performed his duties to the best of his ability, showing his dedication, interest and knowledge on events regarding the iTaukei lands, provincial developmen­ts especially for the people of Kadavu.

“I am happy that he was a member of this party and showed his concerns on the needs of the people and developmen­ts in Fiji.” Mr Rabuka revealed when it was known that Ratu Sela was ill, the party at the time were receiving applicatio­ns of candidates for this year’s election.

He said representa­tives from Kadavu had approached the party requesting to wait on Ratu Sela. “The party waited until it came to the interview of candidates and it was requested for Ratu Sela to be interviewe­d.”

He said the party acknowledg­ed the support of the family for giving Ratu Sela the love and care he needed during his career and when he got ill. He was an energetic, soft spoken, humble and a man who was committed to the people, Mr Rabuka said.

He added Ratu Sela would be missed and remember by party members and those who knew him. Ratu Sela is survived by his wife and four children and four grandchild­ren.
