Nohal’s Dengue Message Wins Him Top Prize
Sixteen-year-old Nohal Goundar’s strong message on the fight against dengue fever yesterday led him to win the secondary schools’ oratory competition during the Western Division Clean-Up Campaign launch at Nawaka District School in Nadi. The Year 11 student from Swami Vivekananda College said that the fight against the disease was everyone’s responsibility.
He also pleaded with the community to work with Government by keeping their environment clean and destroying all breeding places of mosquitoes.
Nohal said that he was only given two days to prepare for the competition, but with the help of his teachers he was able to win the competition’s first prize trophy. “I want to be a civil engineer like my father because ever since I was in primary school he used to advise me to choose a field of work where robots will not take over. This is the career path I want to take in the future,” he added.
His teacher, Naomi Rokobiri thanked teachers and students for helping the students prepare for the oratory despite the time constraints.
“This is unbelievable because we only had two days to prepare ourselves. It takes a lot of confidence and courage to stand up in front of people and trying to make them understand the fight against dengue fever or any issue. I am happy that we are taking back the victory to our school,” she added.
