The Consumer Council of Fiji will conduct a workshop in Labasa on April 24, 2018, with the theme “Strengthening consumer confidence in the Northern Division”.

The workshop will be held at the University of the South Pacific conference room, Labasa Campus from 9am to 2pm and it will address specific issues facing consumers in the Northern Division.

The aim of the workshop is to empower consumers with the knowledge of their rights and responsibilities under various consumer protection laws.

It also serves as a reminder for traders to be compliant in their business dealings. Based on the handling of complaints in Labasa, it is found that consumers and traders have limited knowledge of laws guiding consumer protection and the various consumer redress mechanisms that exist for consumers.

Topics to be discussed at the workshop include breach of common consumer protection laws; consumer redress mechanisms,

Sale of refurbished goods traded with “No Warranty and No Guarantee” basis; Top 10 complaints in the last five years and how to lodge complaints with evidence.

Relevant education is critical in empowering consumers to assert their rights in encountering unfair trade practices. Consumers and traders that are part of the workshop will be able to raise concerns on issues affecting them.
