Defending girls champion Adi Cakobau School and Ratu Kadavulevu School lead the Coca-Cola Games after day one of competitio­n at the ANZ Stadium, Suva.

ACS leads the girls division with

3 gold and 1 silver medal while Jasper Williams High School is in second place with 1 gold and 2 silver medals. Wainibuka Secondary School is in third place with 1 gold. RKS is leading the boys division with 2 gold and 2 silvers and 1 bronze medal while Marist Brothers High is in second place with 1 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze medals In third place is Queen Victoria School with 1 gold and 1 silver. Defending boys champion Natabua High School has amassed 2 bronze medals.

Adi Cakobau School Loata Nabulagi set a new record in the junior javelin with a throw of 40.51metres. Vani Sokomuri also broke the old record of 37.23m in junior javelin with a throw of 39. 26m. Jasper Williams sub junior Saivora Nareba set a new record in the 400m clocking 60. 23 secs.

A total of 36 gold medals will be up for grabs today. Meanwhile, Coca-Cola Amatil marketing manager Lawrence Tikaram said this is another exciting

year and dominant schools should expect tough competitio­n.

“Athletics in Fiji has improved over the years,” Tikaram said.

A total of 166 schools are participat­ing at this year’s Coke Games.
