340 Women artisans gear up for annual event

The 2018 National Women’s Expo will be held at the FMF Gymnasium, Laucala in Suva from June 21 to 23. Women from all divisions across Fiji will be represented.
As organisers, the Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, expect a total of 340 women to participate at the 2018 Expo. “These women artisans were the qualifiers of the Divisional Craft shows held across the four divisions which include northern, eastern, central and western in preparation for the main event,” the statement from the ministry said.
The event will be for three days and will create a platform for women to showcase their products, sell and connect to sustainable markets.
Products of the 340 artisans are handmade and is inclusive of both traditional and contemporary products.
Sewing items, tye and dye, patchwork, and homewares are some of the other things to look forward to at the expo next month.
There will also be food stalls from women’s groups and floral cultural displays.
The other services from Government agencies, commercial banks and NGOs will also be available at the event
The Fiji Rural Women’s Fashion Show will also be held in conjunction with the event on June 22. This platform allows emerging rural women designers to showcase their talents in the national and public arena for recognition and development of individual businesses.
