China has responded to speculative reports by the Australian media on a Chinese vessel said to have anchored beside Australia’s biggest warship HMAS Adelaide at the Post of Suva.

published on Saturday an article titled: Chinese spy ship disguised as fishing boat to dock next to HMAS Adelaide in Fiji. Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Fiji Qian Bo in a press conference yesterday said: “It’s nonsense!”

The Chinese vessel was a space surveillance ship that comes to Fiji regularly or twice every year mainly for the replenishments of the ship. Australia’s High Commissioner to Fiji, John Feakes said the exercise has got nothing to do with China; it was a bilateral exercise between the ADF and the RFMF.

“The Australian media as you probably understand, it’s got a life of its own, so it’s shown in that particular angle,” he said. >SELITA BOLANAVANUA Edited by Ranoba Baoa
