PROJECT AIMS TO IMPROVE CLIMATE CHANGE RESILIENCE
A discussion focusing on funding sustainable development and building a disaster risk management project was in talks at Novotel Suva Lami Bay yesterday.
Senior decision makers and wider stakeholders from the Government and non-government organisations in the country are trying to find ways to suit the CommonSensing Project, which is funded by the United Kingdom Space Agency.
The project is worth about $26.46 million with additional funding from partners. This is an International Project Partnership (IPP) with the Ministry of Land and Mineral Resources. The Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources Faiyaz Koya said: “Through the CommonSensing Project, the IPP seeks to maximize the practical impact from the lives of all Fijian people.
“By this partnership, the use of space solutions to solve our specific development and challenges. In doing so, to increase our capacity.
“This project helps us find solutions and enhances our decision making skills through satellite and remote sensing technology.”
The duration of this proect is 3 years and the inception phase was done during February-March whereby the partners from IPP visited Fiji’s governmental and NGO’s for landscape analysis and definition for Fiji’s specific requirements.
