Nawazuddin Siddiqui dons saffron as he plays Bal Thackeray in biopic
Mumbai: Bollywood actor Nawazuuddin Siddiqui is a true chameleon when it comes to his craft.
The actor who would be seen in
Manto, a film on the life of prophetic writer Saadat Hasan Manto, is now knee-deep in the shooting of Thackeray where he will essay the lead role of former Shiv Sena supremo. A new picture from the film shows Nawazuddin sitting on a chair, resembling the late leader perfectly. A rudraksh string is tied around his wrist and he is wearing the white-kurta pajama and a saffron shawl that was trademark of Thackeray.
Directed by Abhijit Panse, the Thackeray biopic will be shot in Hindi, Marathi, and dubbed in English. The biopic will hit theatres on January 23 next year.
Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut has penned down the film and is also producing it.
Amitabh Bachchan launched the film’s teaser in December last year. When questions were raised on Nawazuddin choosing to play Thackeray, he had said, “I have got the opportunity to play the role of great personality like him, I think any actor would have agreed to play his role.
I will play Thackeray with the same honesty with which I have sought to play Manto.”
