File bail applicatio­ns first, accused five told

Five men charged with attempted arson were advised to file formal bail applicatio­ns before they can be released on bail.

Aliki Anikoso, 28, Jeke Mawi, 49, Peniasi Karikaritu, 48, Jale Valai, 26, Pita Sakosese, 20, appeared in the Nasinu Magistrate­s Court before Magistrate Sufia Hamza.

On the first count of criminal trespass, on June 9, 2018 they are alleged to have unlawfully entered into the compound of Mereani Leweniqamo in New Town Settlement with the intention to commit an offence.

For the second count of damaging property they allegedly unlawfully and wilfully damaged a door valued at $83.37 the property of Ms Leweniqamo.

On the third count of attempt to commit arson they are alleged to have attempted to unlawfully set fire to the dwelling house of Ms Leweniqamo.

Police Prosecutor Constable Setareki Mocevakaca served them with full phase disclosure­s. They were represente­d by the Legal Aid Commission.

All five accused were further remanded in custody.

Their case has been adjourned to June 22, 2018 for mention.
