Fiji Airways Fijian 7s coach Gareth Baber said Fiji is in a good position to win the Rugby World Cup Sevens in San Francisco, next month.

“I believe we have an excellent chance, given the way we have been playing in the past five tournaments,” Baber said. “The RWCS is a one-off tournament and without having to play the week before, I must say we are in a very good position.”

Baber said there were a lot of positives to take from their recent campaign despite falling short for the title during the Paris tournament. “Obviously we are disappointed coming off second best last weekend. But we are massively proud of what we achieved during the year. We put together some good performances last weekend but unfortunately we did not quite get to that level.”

Baber and his men pulled off a tremendous turnaround and bagged five titles out of the 10. But despite all the hype surrounding the RWCS, Baber and his players would need to recover in the next few days.

Two Weeks In Utah

“We will be bringing the boys back next week to sort out their visas and medicals. But the following week is when we will really be bringing them back for one week.” From there, the squad would be flying to Utah in the United States to acclimatize for two weeks before the kick-off of the RWCSs.

“We are going to play a weekend tournament there as well so can get a little bit of preparation, I will be taking 16 players and I will be picking 12 from that.:

Baber also revealed the possibility they would be adding some names to the fold apart from Semi Kunatani, Josua Tuisova and Semi Radradra.
