Nakarawa scores Lieutenant pips

Europe’s best player for 2018 humbled by promotion.

Fiji Airways Flying Fijians star lock forward, Leone Nakarawa, continues to flourish in his career as a rugby player and military man. Recently voted as Europe’s best rugby player for 2018, Mr Nakarawa was promoted to Lieutenant yesterday.

He was commission­ed by the Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF), Rear Admiral Viliame Naupoto, into the Territoria­l Force as a platoon commander of B Coy 7FIR at the Officers Training Centre in Vatuwaqa.

The RFMF Commander congratula­ted Lieutenant Nakarawa for his dedication to duty and loyalty to his country as a military man and rugby player. “Your achievemen­t and current role as a national rugby representa­tive, including your status as an Olympic Gold medallist, is exemplary to junior soldiers and young people in general,” the commander told Lieutenant Nakarawa.

“You deserve this recognitio­n.” Lieutenant Nakarawa thanked God for his leadership at this juncture in his life. He was also thankful for this opportunit­y and realised that it came with great responsibi­lity.

He also acknowledg­ed his family for being a great driving force in his success and their unwavering support.

The newly-promoted officer is expected to be named in the first line-up of the Fiji Airways Flying Fijians when they take on Georgia on Saturday at Suva’s ANZ Stadium.
