Kapadia Honoured to Be Parade Adjutant
Meet Kapadia was honoured to be given a senior position during the Xavier College passing out cadet parade in Ba yesterday. Originally from Mumbai in India, the 18- year-old took up the position of Adjutant.
The Year 13 student moved to Fiji with his father, Mayur Kapadia and sister in 2003 when he was just five years old.
His father came to work as a financial controller in a retail company.
They went back to India in 2009 and returned to Fiji in 2015. His dad now runs a family business in Ba Town.
“I started in this school since Year Nine and it has been an honour to be part of such a prestigious school,” the teenager said. “Standing under the hot sun for two hours can be difficult because it takes a lot of determination and discipline to do it.” Kapadia said he had never regretted the decision to attend Xavier College. “I’ve been taking part in the cadet passing out parade since Year Nine and it has made me confident.
“I hope the values I’ve learnt from here will help me in the future,” he said.
Kapadia hopes to follow in the footsteps of his father and become an accountant.
His father, Mayur Kapadia said he was proud after witnessing his son holding one of the senior position in the military styled cadet passing out parade.
“For the last five years I’ve been part of this significant event at Xavier College,” he said.
Close to 700 students co-ordinated the cadet passing-out parade drills which concluded with the formation of the COP23 logo. Deputy Commander of the Republic of the Fiji Military Forces, Brigadier-General, Mohammed Aziz described the parade as an excellent display that depicted discipline and hard work.
It took them 15 sessions of three hours per day of training within a period of seven weeks to prepare for the cadet pass out parade.
The parade consisted of 36 officers and 694 cadets in 18 platoons. It was through team work, he said that enabled students to successfully execute the parade. “Through teamwork we can achieve our goals as a team or an institution. It’s pleasing to see the creativity and self-motivation by all of you,” Brigadier-General Aziz said.
As the school celebrates its 23rd cadet pass out parade, he said it was also known in Fiji as a school that produced academic excellence including sports.
“These attributes will encourage you to be good leaders of society. Success wouldn’t be difficult without team work and I want to commend the school for encouraging this programme.
“To be a good leader you need to work with people under you,” Brigadier General Aziz said.
