Life expectancy rises to 76.7 for Chinese

The life expectancy of Chinese rose to 76.7 years in 2017, according to government statistics.

The infant mortality rate has decreased to 6.8 deaths per 1000 live births, while the maternal mortality rate dropped to 19.6 per 100,000 births, said a statistics communique released by the National Health Commission.

“The main health indicators for the Chinese as a whole are above average in upper-middle income countries.” China has seen a rising life expectancy for its people over the years: from 74.83 years in 2010, and 76.34 years in 2015.

Archeologi­sts in central China’s Hubei Province have discovered 212 ancient tombs dating back around 5000 years to the Neolithic Age, local authoritie­s said.

The tombs are located at a relics site in Shayang County in Jingzhou. The site was discovered in 1983 and a recent excavation started in March led to the discovery of the tombs.

The tombs vary in size with five tombs larger than 10 square metres, 32 tombs around four square metres, 61 tombs around 2.5 square metres, and the rest around 1.5 to 2 square metres.
