Environment impact

-

Kirti Patel, Lautoka

As I said earlier in one of my letters, the concept of demand and supply will always be an influencing factor.

The plastic saga have been for quite some time now and sadly the problem still persists.

Till to date we see plastics, bottles and other litter surrounding our drains, sea and public places.

The levy on plastic bags is surely not working. Why? It is still available. Why not eradicate it totally.

I know there are many including me who would not oppose to pay the levy for the plastic bags because I know it is available in return for some extra cost also it is easier in terms of carrying.

However, if there is a stern stop on its availability the plastic problem harming our environment won't exist or at-least will minimise.

Not everyone disposes the plastics thoughtfully. Likewise for other litter taking place, I have seen many who disregard our environment and do not spare a thought before disposing of their rubbish.

I have seen many people spitting while sitting in the bus or while walking in town, totally disregarding the people around them.

Just how disgusting as well as pathetic I must say.

It is not fair for those people who are hygienic and try to keep their environment and themselves clean, neat and tidy. Public places are well used by many parents with babies and such habits can be harmful to the health of the tender ones.

It is very hard to stop people from doing this, but if the law enforcers come down hard on them, surely it can work although such things have come from one's within. Not everyone has the inner cautiousness in regard to this.

And when things are not done from the heart rather only from it being imposed it, does not go long anyway.

I hope there can be some self reliance and things can improve.

This is our environment, our people and our beloved country, let's take care of it from our hearts.
