Three dead in North as vehicle veers off highway
Three people from Nasarawaqa, Bua, are dead after the vehicle they were travelling in veered off the road along the Hibiscus Highway in Savusavu.
Dead are Ravneel Prasad, 36, Ashneel Prasad, 30, and a man known only as Etuate. They all worked for Titi’s Group of Companies’ Bua branch in Bua and went to Savusavu to celebrate Mr Ravneel Prasad’s 36th birthday.
Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed the accident and the deaths.
“I can confirm that three people are dead after the vehicle they were travelling in veered off the road along the Hibiscus Highway in Savusavu on Friday,” she said. The birthday celebration was at Narain Street, Savusavu Town, on Thursday. Ravneel Prasad’s younger brother Sonal said they were shocked to hear the news of the death on Saturday.
He said he went to Labasa Hospital to identify his dead brother.
“My brother had three children,” he said. He described his brother as a family man and would always go out of his way to help others.
“My older brother was good to his friends and employers, the extended family,” Sonal said.
He said he was the sole breadwinner of the family.
“He will be remembered as a wonderful brother, a great friend, a generous uncle and cousin.” Sonal said the family would miss his elder brother and promised to look after his family
Funeral rites will start after the post-mortem examinations are completed.
The road death toll now stands at 34, compared with 34 for the same period last year.
