Only hard work and merit will bring prosperity

-

The 2018/2019 National Budget has been passed in Parliament.

During the debate, the Opposition MPs labelled it as an election budget or a bucket of freebies for the people in exchange for their votes in the 2018 General Election.

Interestingly, in his contribution during the budget debate, Opposition MP Ro Kini Kiliraki raised the issue of God’s absence in the country’s Constitution and warned that we’re living in a Godless State.

How can this be when the adage “that God helps those who help themselves,” always rings true?

All these Government initiatives being presented in the 2018-2019 National Budget come at a cost to us and it’s NOT for free.

There are several criteria to be followed if you are to be eligible for it.

For instance, when applying for the $1000 Small Business Grants, you must ensure:

• That your business is legally registered;

• You are able submit your bank statements;

• You outline the nature of your business; and

• You produce a workable business plan along with the quotations.

These are basic requirements that you have to comply with in order to be considered.

It’s not a matter of filling out the forms and getting the grant straightaway without any vetting being done. Yes, there were thousands of people around Fiji who qualified for the grant, but however at the same time there were a good number of applications that were rejected simply because the applicants failed to meet the requirements.

And this goes for all

Government initiatives and again we have to bear in mind that nothing is for free.

You have to put in hard work in order to qualify.

We’re all working on an equal platform where everything is based on merit and not who you are or where you come from.

This is the only way forward for all Fijians - which also includes the iTaukei, who for so long have been incubated by the handout mentality.

This resulted in them lagging behind in business and development, while others moved ahead.

It’s time to change our mind-set and take on the new pathway to prosperity.

We have to put our faith into action to get the results that we want.

That’s Godly and as for now there’s no turning back because the sky is the limit.

It’s not a matter of filling out the forms and getting the grant straightaway without any vetting being done.
