Despite lack of funding, the Fiji Muslim team is ready to play their first match against United States in the FANCA Championship at Churchill Park in Lautoka today.

Team manager Jainut Dean said looking for sponsorships had been quite difficult.

“Last week we had the INKK Battle of Giants (BOG) so all business communities already put money into that,” Dean said.

“Experience-wise, we have got all we need,”

“We are just trying to find the right combination. We played Lautoka on Monday to help us.”

He said that their goalkeeper Ashmad Beqq would be joining the team.

“Zibra Sahib is also on the way,” said Dean.

The team will feature district players such as Abbu Zahid who was awarded the best player in B.O.G tournament held at Churchill Park last week. Other players include Mohi Shazil and Edward Justin from Lautoka and William Valentine and Afraz Ali from Nadi. Another young talent Mohammed Rahil, 19 would also feature in today’s first game.

Rahil said that he was excited to be representing the national side. “We started working on our combinations and we understanding each other.

“We are really in the spirit of playing the first match because players from other countries would be participating.”
