SVC Celebrates Win With Nadi Special School
Touching and heartwarming was how students described celebrations at Swami Vivekananda College (SVC) this week to mark the school’s win at last week’s Kula - Fijian Made Film Awards. SVC students and teachers celebrated the win with Nadi Special School students. The college scooped the best film, best script, best actor and best actress awards at the annual event.
Thrivell Lal, the special student on whom the film was based and his sign language teacher Makareta Sobanivalu, accompanied SVC students to the Suva event.
Assistant Principal Geeta Krishna said, “The students and teachers of the primary school were excited to see the students and Thrivell since he was there as a primary school student a few years back.
“The students of SVC have made a film, but haven’t seen the reality of such students so this was an opportunity to experience first-hand the feelings and happiness of these kids.”
The students spent time and celebrated with refreshments with the 120 students and 30 teachers present.
Mrs Krishna said that the idea had been initiated by Rajesh Krishna, the college principal.
“Every event in the past was celebrated in the school so the principal told the students to share their victory with these special students and embrace the opportunity to share and give happiness,” she said.
Mr Krishna said these initiatives built team spirit and developed interpersonal skills.
He also added that every Wednesday the staff had a Health and Wellness Programme, which involved a variety of interesting and fun-filled games. Meanwhile, Thrivell is SVC’s Year 12 prefect.
