Vodafone Fiji’s Shalendra Prasad yesterday challenged the Vodafone Hibiscus contestants, officials and the public on climate responsibility.

The acting chief marketing officer speaking at the opening of the week-long festival at the Valelevu groud, in Nasinu, said the Prime Minister had already left an indelible mark on the world stage during COP23 last year and we should also do our bit too.

“We owe it to our future generations,” Mr Prasad said.

“We cannot continue to have a luxuries and wasteful life at the expense of our future generations. “We have moral obligations to conserve and protect the environment for our future generations for them enjoy also.”

Mr Prasad said the theme, “Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repurpose and Recycle” should also set the tone for us to be responsible Fijians.

“It is accredited to our Prime Minister that despite this very contentious issue, he introduced the Talanoa Session to bring many of the global leaders face-to-face and talk about the issue so that they can have a better understanding on the impacts of climate change on nations such as ours,” Mr Prasad said.

“The effects of climate change are real and are already upon us. “Extreme weather conditions such as prolong droughts during the periods of the summer and heavy rain causing wide spread flooding and devastations are in the news every day.”
