Twelve mothers and their babies walked away with prizes after attending the one-day Baby Show event organised by the Vodafone Festival of the Friendly North yesterday.

Festival committee Baby Show chairperson Cynthia Sharma said the prizes were given out in four categories which were from the youngest to the oldest of the group.

The baby winner for category zero to three months old was Pita Ravula; three to six months was baby Tomasi Mara; six to nine months baby was Viyan Naidu and from nine months to one year was Sheik Muaz.

Mrs Sharma said the second and third place winners were given prizes and others were given certificate of participation and consolation awards.

“This is the second time I am chairing this Baby Show and it has been a wonderful experience. Just being able to see mothers providing the opportunity to their babies to be part of this annual event,” Mrs Sharma said.

“We had a panel of judges consisting of medical professionals and we were not looking at how well a baby was decorated. “Instead we looked at out how healthy the baby is, cleanliness, hygiene and other things on their clinic card,” she said.

She said more than 50 mothers were present at the event with their babies.

“We even welcomed mothers who brought their babies above the age of one and gave them gifts.

“As a mother of twin boys and a nurse by profession my advice to the mothers is to choose breastfeeding your babies and take good care of their health and babies’ health.

“I would like to thank everyone who helped us to make this show a successful one,” she added. The major sponsor for the baby show was Drive Smart Limited and co-sponsors were Ministry of Health and Medical Services and Asaleo Care.
