7s Desperate for Redemption, 15s Keep Our Game Kicking

It’s our national sport and we maybe the Olympic champion.

But when we are on the ropes and our reputation bruised and battered, it’s time we take a good look at the game and ourselves.

With the current state of affairs of rugby’s abbreviated code, it is only proper that we start from scratch and do it properly from the start again.

That is one of the basics of achieving success if we are to build a winning culture in future.

We are desperate for 7s redemption and fans wants nothing less, but to get back to our winning habit.

And with the start of the new

2018-19 sevens series season on the horizon, it is only proper we do it right from the start.

The Fiji Rugby Union has set the ball rolling last month by advertising for a new for head coach, manager and strength and conditioning coach for Fijiana.

The overhaul is long overdue and it’s most pleasing that an open trial was held on Friday at the University of the South Pacific to select a squad for the season.

New faces, fresh outlook are what our Fijiana needed to bring a bright dimension to their game.

And interim coach Ro Alivereti Doviverata has set the record straight and warned the 70 women who turned up to toe the line.

Doviverata said: “In here we want you to listen, be obedient and not to be on your own. If we tell you something to be done, it needs to be done, we need to work together.” This is the right way forward for our women who were merely participants in the Women Sevens Series in the past.

They never came close to winning a tournament and had never beaten Australia and New Zealand.

This must stop because there has been so much losses in the Fijiana jersey over the years.

The new set must create a new culture when the extended squad marches into camp on September 26 to prepare for the opening round of the Women Sevens Series in Glendale, Colorado, USA, on October 20-21 followed by the Oceania 7s on November 9-10 in Suva. Former Flying Fijians captain Doviverata is making it clear the losses and attitudes of the past have to stop.
