Prosecution witness takes stand in robbery trial

Aprosecution witness took the stand to give evidence in an aggravated robbery trial at the High Court in Suva on Tuesday.

The trial started on Monday before judge Justice Salesi Temo.

Asesela Niubasaga and Samisoni Waqavatu are each charged with one count of aggravated robbery.

On the day of the alleged incident, the two men with others allegedly robbed the complainant in Samabula.

It is alleged that they stole a steel safe valued at $1000, $11,000 cash, assorted liquor valued at $1100, assorted jewelleries valued at $15,000, AU$400 cash (FJ$609.99), one couch bag valued at $2000, assorted clothes valued at $300, a Samsung mobile phone valued at $800 and a Suzuki van valued at $8000.

The state is represented by Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions lawyer Saif Shah. The witness, Sukulu Lolati who was the Police officer during the caution interview of the two accused, gave his evidence.

He was stationed and conducted the caution interview at the Samabula Police Station.

He told the court that he was instructed by his seniors to conduct the caution interview of the accused persons.

The trial continues before Justice Temo.
