Salta Test Must Win: Banks

- Buenos Aires: AAP

There’ll be no Gold Coast ghosts haunting the Wallabies in Salta, back Tom Banks says.

The Salta Test is a must-win in large part because of the Wallabies’ defeat on that night, a result that put immense pressure on Australia’s players and staff.

Banks was not in the Wallabies 23 that night, released back to the NRC, watching from afar as the Aussies suffered a shock home defeat to the Pumas.

The 24-year-old is all but certain to be a part of this clash in Argentina’s north after Jack Maddocks returned home with a hand injury.

Israel Folau had a chance to steal the game for the Wallabies in the final seconds but opted against passing to Bernard Foley deep in attack and Australia was relegated to defeat.

Folau’s decision came on the back of a series of errors but the fullback copped plenty of flak post-match for the call.

Banks said the Wallabies superstar, and the rest of the team, had moved on from that moment as they ready themselves for the weekend’s clash.

“He had a good game, he scored that unbelievable try and he’s not focused on what people are saying,” he said.

“It’s just trying to find ways to go better as a whole, not an individual.”

The Wallabies are hoping to end a run of three straight losses when they head to Salta for the first time with just two wins from their past 10 Tests.
