Hotels in Labasa are fully booked for next week’s Fiji Day celebration. Ministers, Government dignitaries and the diplomatic corps are expected to attend the official ceremony at Subrail Park and in Labasa Town on October 10.

About 500 soldiers, 160 people and 40 Police officers are expected to take part in the Fiji Day parade, that will include a military tattoo. In an earlier statement, Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama said following the success of the National Constitution Day on September 7 in Labasa, the people of the North were in for a big treat.

“Because I know, as you know, that here in the North you matter equally for our progress and development, you are all entitled to the same rights enshrined in our Constitution, and you are equally deserving of my Government’s total and unwavering commitment to your happiness and your success,” Mr Bainimarama said. Commissioner Northern Jovesa Vocea urged Northerners to come in number to the celebration venue at Subrail Park.

Labasa Chamber of Commerce president Satish Kumar said: “This will be a boost for the business houses in the Northern Division because they will be receiving a crowd that the people of Labasa have yet to experience.” Mr Bainimarama is expected to hand out more assistance and open the new Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji office.
