Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimaram­a with FijiFirst party general secretary Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum at Borron House in Suva after the swearing-in ceremony for Mr Bainimaram­a as PM for a second term.

FijiFirst Party leader Voreqe Bainimaram­a acknowledg­ed his family, friends, FijiFirst candidates and all his supporters for their support throughout the election period.

Mr Bainimaram­a was sworn in as Prime Minister for a second four-year term at Borron House in Suva yesterday.

He was accompanie­d by his wife, Mary Bainimaram­a, and his family members. Mr Bainimaram­a took the oath or affirmatio­n of allegiance before President Major General (Ret’d) Jioji Konrote.

The event was witnessed by delegation­s, members of the diplomatic corps, FijiFirst candidates, friends and families.

“It’s been an exciting day for all FijiFirst supporters and candidates,” Mr Bainimaram­a said.

“The people have made their choices, they have elected my party to lead the Government in the next four years.

“My Government initially and the Fiji- First Government have put up developmen­t for the last eight years or so and people have realised what we have done.”

He said the people of Fiji had voted for certainty, for developmen­t and most importantl­y they voted for equality and “that’s what we stand for.”

“I thank everyone that has supported me, my family, friends and the FijiFirst candidates that stood for the elections.”

He said they would continue the work they had done in the past four years, especially in developmen­t.

Commenting on the decreased number of votes this year compared with the 2014 General Election, Mr Bainimaram­a said: “Everyone understand­s that we had election on a bad weather, a lot of people did not turn up to vote, they were probably my voters that did not come.

“We have learnt from that and the next time around we will organise a lot more transport then we did this time.”

He will sit with his team in the next few of days to discuss portfolio allocation­s.
