Bright future for Cokanasiga

London: England head coach Eddie Jones was delighted with Joe Cokanasiga’s performance as he marked his debut with a try against Japan on Sunday.

The Bath wing went over for his side’s third try in the 35-15 victory over the Brave Blossoms, with Jones predicting a bright future for him.

“He will score plenty, he’s a big lad, he has pace and power,” he told England Rugby. “He can find the line, so he will score a few more at Twickenham down that left-hand side.” England were made to work for the win at Twickenham as Japan took a 15-10 lead into the break, impressing with their all-action style of play, something Jones feels will have benefited his side.

“It was a fantastic experience for us,” he added. “I was really pleased with how well Japan played, they got stuck in. We wanted a game that tested us, we put out a different team, playing different combinations to see how players would combine in different positions.

“The way we responded pleased me. We played like England in the second-half, I can only recall Japan getting in our 22m once in that second period. The stats of the first half were probably reversed.”

Looking ahead to this Sunday’s November Test against Australia, Jones believes his team will face a side desperate to end the year on a high.

“They’ve had a tough year, a bit like us, it’s their last game of the year, as it is ours so we’ll both be looking for a winning performance,” he concluded.
