Lomaiviti Provincial Sports Committee received a timely boost of $2,300 from Hot Bread Kitchen yesterday.

This is to assist in the hosting of the Lomaiviti 7s tournament at the Bidesi Park this Saturday.

The tournament will run in parallel with the week-long Lomaiviti Carnival set to start on Friday at Furnival Park in Toorak, Suva. Committee chairman Sivorosi Tora was grateful for the sponsorship.

“I would like to thank Hot Bread Kitchen for coming on board and sponsoring this tournament,” Tora said.

“We are looking at getting 32 teams in 8 pools of 4 teams. “The Cup winner receives $5000 and there will also cash rewards for Bowl, Plate winners as the total prize package is $10,000.

“We are actually aiming to improve and move the tournament one step up compared to last year. “The Lomaiviti group of islands consists of 12 districts and majority of the districts will provide two teams. But we are also inviting teams outside the province to be part of the tournament.

“Last year Nairai won the tournament and I urge fans to come out in numbers to support their teams.” Meanwhile, Hot Bread Kitchen director John Samisoni was grateful for the opportunity to sponsor the tournament for the first time.

“It’s a pleasure to be able to come out and help Lomaiviti in organizing such tournament. This is the first time we are sponsoring the Lomaiviti 7s,” Samisoni said. “Our company had a separate budget allocated for this tournament. We want to promote and support islands rugby and other minor sports.”
