The Fiji basketball team took time out from training and visited kids at Suva Special School as part of their community programme yesterday.

The Saula Koroi-coached side departs tomorrow for the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Asia Cup 2021 Qualifiers in Bangkok, Thailand from November 26 to December 1.

“We are excited to be at Suva Special School, conduct basketball clinics to the kids which also motivate us,”Koroi said.

“It’s a special visit for special people.” Fiji alongside Pacific Games champions Guam, Singapore and host Thailand will be competing during the six days tourney. The Fijian side play Thailand in their first match on Monday, then Guam in the second round. Fiji and Guam last met in the 2015 Pacific Games final at Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea where Fiji lost 78-61 to settle for silver medal. The two will meet again after two years and Koroi is determined of a positive result.

“We are looking forward to seek revenge against Guam. We are the top two teams in the Pacific and we need to prove our worth. “We have been preparing for five months now straight after the Easter Championships. We missed our key players from the 2015 Pacific Games but we are still confident of giving our best performance,” Koroi said. Koroi believes in young players.

“I’ve faith in these young players to do their best,”Koroi said.
