Parental Support Important, Says Iva
The importance of parental support has been highlighted during a school prizegiving ceremony. This is after Rukuruku District School 2018 Dux Ivamere Lewanitoga attributed her success to her parents.
The Year 8 student is originally from Dreke Village, Nadroga, and scooped the top award during the prizegiving at the school on Tuesday.
“My parents were the ones who inspired me to achieve this award. The things I faced here in school were not always easy, but I thank my parents and teachers for supporting me,” Ivamere said.
“Their encouragement enabled me to strive forward. The difficulties that I faced didn’t stop me from achieving my goal.”
Her mother, Miriama Lagilagi, said: “My daughter’s achievement came as a surprise today. We came from Suva today and we were not expecting that she will be awarded the Dux prize.
“I couldn’t stop my tears. I am overwhelmed by my daughter’s achievement. We always support our children’s studies and we can see the benefits in their achievement in school.
“I am so proud of my daughter today. We know the difficulties they face here in school. We are so thankful for the Government today for providing the school with borehole water.”
“God is good”, this was the response from father
Setareki Veidiri, 51.
“It did not come as a surprise to me that my daughter would achieve this award. Two of my daughters had already been awarded as Dux of this school. I was expecting this when we came.
“I challenged Ivamere that if her two elder sisters could be the Dux of school why can’t she be the next in line. I knew she would receive this award today because she is a very hard-working girl and she deserves this,” he said. Edited by Epineri Vula ■ Dux: Ivamere Lewanitoga
