Lavenia Strives to Do Well for Son

Lavenia Cevalala may not be well educated, but every day she tries her best to become a better person for her son, a university student.

The support from her family drove her to graduate from Fiji Muslim League Makoi Women’s Vocational Training Centre with her first certificate yesterday, a Certificate in Sewing. Ms Cevalala said she regretted not completing her education. “When I was in Form 2 (Year 8) my parents divorced and I dropped out of school. I still regret making that decision until today,” she said. “I would have had a better job if I didn’t quit. When my parents divorced, I thought it was the end.

“Because I didn’t finish school I am not well versed in English, but I still try. Joining this vocational school was the best decision I made. “I am thankful that my husband and son supported me and encouraged me to do my best.”

Ms Cevalala ensures that her son is well educated.

“My son is 20 years old and is a university student. I am not welleducated and I want my son be educated so that he will have a secure future,” she said.

“My son was happy when I told him I was going to attend Fiji Muslim League Makoi Women’s Vocational Training Centre. He told me that he was happy that I decided to do something. I believe I have a lot to learn. I will continue to strive for the best and make sure that this is not the end, but just the beginning.” She was one of the 25 women who graduated with a Certificate in Sewing.
