Police: Autopsy reveals possible murder

Late Mr Singh, who was arrested by citizen for alleged property damage, complained of being sick at Police station.

Police spokespers­on Ana Naisoro confirmed they now had a suspect in relation to the alleged murder of Mr Singh.

The Fiji Police Force has now classified as murder a case involving a man who died at the Valelevu Health Centre on Saturday after a citizen’s arrest.

It is alleged that the late Bhawan Singh, 32, was arrested by a citizen on the said day for allegedly damaging a property and was taken to the Nasinu Police Station. Police spokespers­on Ana Naisoro confirmed they now had a suspect in relation to the alleged murder of Mr Singh.

She said they would now work on the informatio­n gathered through the investigat­ion process to pursue the case further.

The cause of death, according to the post mortem examinatio­n result, was asphyxia (a condition arising when the body is deprived of oxygen, causing unconsciou­sness or death; suffocatio­n). It also stated airway obstructio­n, severe neck trauma and blunt force trauma.

Mr Singh was arrested by a citizen for allegedly damaging his vehicle, which was parked along Narere Stage 1 last Saturday afternoon. It was alleged that Mr Singh was heavily intoxicate­d at the time of the citizen arrest and when he was taken to the Nasinu Police Station.

At the station, Mr Singh then complained of being ill. He was then rushed to the Makoi Health Centre for treatment and later transferre­d to the Valelevu Hospital where Mr Singh later died.
