Telecom Fiji has joined the Netflix Open Connect programme, Netflix’s own content delivery network, to provide the highest-quality streaming experience for Telecom customers.

Under this programme, which is a first for Fiji, Netflix will deploy its content servers, known as Open Connect Appliances (OCAs), locally within Telecom Fiji’s network.

Once fully installed and commissioned, customers in Fiji will get an enhanced viewing experience on Netflix.

“We are grateful to Netflix for this opportunity and for hosting their content locally within Fiji with Telecom.

With Netflix content servers now locally hosted within Fiji, our customers will now have a much better quality of experience, especially in terms of watching High Definition (HD) and Ultra HD movies,” said Charles Goundar, Chief Executive Officer, Telecom Fiji. Netflix partners with hundreds of ISPs around the world to delivery content efficiently, localizing to the regional point of interconnection that’s geographically closest to the end customers who are watching.

“With the rollout of our high speed broadband services and in particular Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) technology, having premium content such as Netflix locally hosted means customers get full benefit of the high speed of the connection,” said Mr. Goundar.

Many internet providers around the globe are taking advantage of this option of hosting Netflix caching servers as it has the dual benefit of reducing the ISP’s cost of operation and ensuring the best possible Netflix content viewing experience for their customers.
